Fatal Vermilion County Motorcycle Crash

There was a fatal Illinois motorcycle accident Tuesday afternoon (September 26, 2017) on Interstate 74 in Vermilion County.  The accident involved a motorcycle loss of control.

According to information provided by the Illinois State Police (ISP) the accident happened on eastbound I-74 near Fithian.

An excerpt from the September 26, 2017 News-Gazette.com article titled “Driver in fatal I-74 motorcycle crash identified“:

Illinois State Police said the driver lost control of his motorcycle about 3:43 p.m. while eastbound on I-74, according to preliminary investigations. The motorcycle then left the road, went into the grass median and struck the median wires, ejecting the driver.

According to the Vermilion County Coroner, the motorcycle died at the accident scene.  He was identified as Francis P. Maher, 68, of Moweaqua.

The accident investigation is being conducted by the ISP and the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office.
