There was a fatal motorcycle accident early Thursday morning (August 17, 2017) on Illinois Route 29 in Peoria Heights.
This accident apparently involved a loss of motorcycle control as the motorcycle (with passenger) was traveling southbound shortly before 2:00 a.m. in the 5800 block of Route 29. The loss of control caused the motorcycle to leave the roadway and crash, and both the motorcyclist and passenger were ejected from the motorcycle. The reason(s) for the loss of control does not appear to be determined and/or publicly disclosed.
The motorcyclist, identified as Michael Franklin Jr., 41, of Peoria, died in the crash. An autopsy revealed he died from blunt-force injuries. During the crash he was not wearing a motorcycle helmet.
The passenger on the motorcycle, a woman, was taken to OSF Healthcare Saint Francis for treatment of her accident injuries.
This fatal motorcycle accident is being investigated by the Peoria and Peoria Heights Police Departments.
