A motorcyclist and passenger died after being in a motorcycle collision with a car Thursday night (August 17, 2017) in Belleville.
According to Belleville Police, the collision occurred at approximately 8:49 p.m. at the intersection of South Belt West and State Street. The collision involved a 2000 BMW 259R motorcycle and a Chevrolet Cruz car.
The motorcyclist, Mark D. Maedeker, of Mascoutah, and passenger, Ellen L. Womack, 60, of Fairview Heights, died following the accident.

The other vehicle, a 2014 Chevrolet Cruz, was driven by a 23-year-old man who was treated at the scene, then taken into police custody for further investigation. His name was not released.
