Motorcyclist Dies Following Lake Zurich Collision

A motorcyclist died Friday (July 28, 2017) after a July 17 motorcycle-car collision occurred in Lake Zurich.  As is often the case in serious and fatal Illinois motorcycle accidents, according to police the accident involved a car making a left-hand turn in front of an oncoming motorcycle.

An excerpt regarding the crash, from the July 31, 2017 Chicago Sun-Times article titled “59-year-old motorcyclist dies after Lake Zurich crash“:

At 4:25 p.m. on July 17, a 2008 Honda sedan was heading north on Ela Road when the driver turned left on Cuba Road and struck a southbound 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle, according to Lake Zurich police.

The motorcyclist, identified as Paul Vail, 59, of Elmhurst, was ejected from the motorcycle and suffered serious accident injuries. At the time of the collision he was not wearing a motorcycle helmet.

Vail was taken to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for treatment of his accident injuries.  He died on Friday night, July 28.

No citations have (yet) been filed with regard to the collision.  The accident investigation is being conducted by the Lake Zurich Police Department and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team.

Motorcycle Crash On Illinois 4 Critically Injures Motorcyclist

There was a motorcycle accident Sunday night (July 30, 2017) on Illinois 4 (just south of Interstate 64).  The motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries including severe head injuries.

According to information provided by the Illinois State Police (ISP) the crash happened shortly before midnight.  The motorcyclist was identified as Jason Stillwell, 41, of New Baden.

An excerpt from the July 31, 2017 bnd.com article titled “New Baden man in critical condition after motorcycle crash“:

Stillwell was driving north around 11:40 p.m. just south of Interstate 64 when his motorcycle left the roadway, Trooper Calvin Dye Jr. said. A preliminary investigation indicated the man drove around a curve too fast, hit a curb and lost control of the vehicle, Dye said. Stillwell was thrown from the motorcycle.

Stillwell was not wearing a helmet, Dye said. He was taken by ambulance to Memorial East Hospital with severe head injuries. From Memorial East, he was flown to Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

Fatal Motorcycle Crash In Cicero

There was a fatal motorcycle accident early Saturday morning (July 29, 2017) in Cicero.  As often seen in Illinois motorcycle accidents, this crash involved a loss of motorcycle control.

An excerpt from the Chicago Sun-Times article of July 31, 2017, titled “Motorcyclist killed in Cicero crash“:

Oswaldo A. Garcia, 32, was riding south in the 2400 block of South Cicero Avenue about 1 a.m. when he lost control of the bike and struck a pole, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office and Ray Hanania, spokesman for the town of Cicero.

Garcia, of Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood, was pronounced dead shortly after the crash, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Motorcycle Crash Near Hillsboro Injures Two People

There was a motorcycle crash Tuesday (July 25, 2017) southwest of Hillsboro.  The motorcyclist and passenger were seriously injured.  The crash involved a motorcycle loss of control.

According to information provided by the Illinois State Police (ISP) the crash happened on Longbridge Trail at Elm Trail, at 3:35 p.m.

According to state police, the two were on a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle traveling eastbound on Longbridge Trail approaching Elm Trail, when they attempted to slow down for the T-intersection and lost control of the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was identified as Larry Everett, 58, of Hillsboro. The passenger was identified as Rhonda Edwards, 51, of Nokomis.  Both were flown to hospitals.

The accident investigation is being conducted by the ISP.

Fatal Yorkville Motorcycle Accident

There was a fatal motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon (July 22, 2017) in Yorkville.

Details on the accident currently appear limited.  The cause of the crash does not appear to be publicly disclosed at this time.

The Illinois State Police reported that Eugene Sass, 47, of Oswego was riding his motorcycle in an accident involving two other passenger vehicles that occurred Saturday on Route 71 near High Point Road. The accident occurred at around 4:25 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, according to State Police Sgt. Jason Bradley.

Sass died after being flown to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

One of the drivers of the other vehicles involved in the crash was taken to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora for treatment of accident injuries.  Those injuries were considered to be non-life-threatening in nature.
