Motorcyclist Injured During Naperville Motorcycle Crash

There was a motorcycle crash Thursday afternoon (November 24, 2016) in Naperville.

According to Naperville Police, first responders were called at 12:17 p.m., and the accident scene was at 248th Avenue and Ashwood Road.

The accident involved a motorcyclist, identified as a 19-year-old man from Naperville, who was riding a Honda CBR600RR.  After losing control of the motorcycle,  his bike struck a curb and he crashed.  During the crash, the motorcyclist was ejected, and he hit a light pole.

The motorcyclist was taken to Edward Hospital in Naperville with accident injuries described as serious injuries.

Fatal Grundy County Minivan-Motorcycle Collision

There was a fatal motorcycle-minivan collision Sunday afternoon (November 13, 2016) in Grundy County.

According to the Grundy County Coroner’s Office, the accident happened at the intersection of Jugtown Road and Deerfield Road, shortly before 2:00 p.m.

An excerpt regarding the preliminary crash investigation findings, as seen in the November 14, 2016 Channahon Patch article titled “Motorcyclist Dies in Morris Crash with Minivan“:

Daniel Ruffatto driving a motorcycle northbound on Jugtown approaching the intersection of Deerfield when a van traveling southbound turned east to travel onto Deerfield when the collision occurred. The two collided in the intersection.

As a result of the collision, Ruffatto, 51, of Coal City, was thrown (i.e. was ejected) from the motorcycle.  He was pronounced dead at the accident scene.  At the time of the collision, he was not wearing a motorcycle helmet.

The crash remains under investigation.  Media sources do not appear to indicate what citations or other charges, if any, have been filed in relation to the crash.

Driver Charged Following Fatal Head-On Collision With Motorcycle

One of the continued hazards that motorcyclists face is motorists who are driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) or are otherwise impaired.

A fatal car-motorcycle crash occurred on Saturday night (November 5, 2016) outside of Valparaiso after which the motorist faced numerous charges.

An excerpt from the Chicago Sun-Times article of November 6, 2016, titled “Woman charged with DUI for fatal motorcycle crash in Valparaiso“:

Nanette Howard, 55, was a passenger on the 1990 maroon Harley Sportster motorcycle about 7:50 p.m., traveling west on U.S. Highway 6 approaching County Road 550 East in Valparaiso, when the bike was struck head-on by a 2005 blue Chevrolet Cobalt, according to a statement from the Porter County sheriff’s office.

Police said the Cobalt pulled out in front of the motorcycle while turning onto eastbound Highway 6 from southbound County Road 550 East.

Howard was flown to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for treatment of her accident injuries, which included head injuries and leg injuries.  She died later that night.

The motorcyclist was identified as Donald McCarthy, 68, of Chesterton.  He also suffered head injuries as well as foot injuries.  He was taken to Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus in Gary for treatment of his accident injuries.

Neither McCarthy or Howard were wearing motorcycle helmets at the time of the accident.

The driver of the Chevrolet Cobalt was identified as Rachel Dover, 24.

Rachel Dover, of Clarksville, Tennessee, was arrested after the crash about 7:50 p.m. Saturday on two counts of felony operating while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury and two misdemeanor OWI counts.

Dover also was cited the night of the crash for failure to yield the right of way and refusal to submit to a chemical test, police said.

Car-Motorcycle Collision In West Frankfort

There was a car-motorcycle collision in West Frankfort on Saturday (November 5, 2016) in which three people on motorcycles were injured.

According to West Frankfort Police Chief Shawn Talluto, the crash happened at approximately 11:00 a.m., as a driver in a 2012 Buick sedan was traveling northbound on Route 37.  For an undisclosed reason, the Buick crossed the center line and struck a southbound motorcycle.

After this collision, the motorcycle hit another motorcycle.

Three people who were on the motorcycles were critically injured, and flown to a hospital for treatment of their accident injuries.
