Motorcycle Accident In Peoria, Illinois

There was a motorcycle accident in Peoria, Illinois on Saturday, September 28, 2013, that later led to the death of the motorcyclist.

The accident happened as the motorcyclist was stopped on his motorcycle around noon on Saturday on Route 150.  He was stopped behind a vehicle that was waiting to turn left onto North Gilles Road.  As the motorcyclist waited, a car traveling behind the motorcyclist failed to see that traffic had stopped, and ran into the back of the motorcycle.  The impact caused the motorcycle to flip over the vehicle ahead of it.

The motorcyclist sustained injuries to his head and brain, and died on October 8, 2013.

The motorcyclist was Joe Spears, a retired Peoria police officer.

Fatal Motorcycle Accident In Quincy, Illinois

There was a motorcycle accident in Quincy, Illinois on Saturday night, October 5, 2013, that led to the death of one of the two injured motorcyclists.

The accident happened on Saturday night at approximately 10:00 p.m., as the two motorcyclists were riding west on Harrison Street.  A van, which was attempting to make a left onto Harrison from 18th Street, turned into the path of the motorcyclists.

Both motorcycles collided with the van.  The two motorcyclists were taken to Blessing Hospital.

The driver of the van refused medical treatment, and was ticketed for failure to yield during a left turn.

The two motorcyclists were identified as Brandon J. Smith, 32, of Quincy, and Dustin Humphrey.  Brandon Smith died Tuesday morning.

Accident Involving Two Motorcycles On I-90

There was a motorcycle accident this evening (October 2, 2013) on westbound Interstate 90 (I-90) in which two people were injured.  The accident, which happened at approximately 7:30 p.m., happened between Lee Street and the Des Plaines Oasis.

An excerpt from the October 2, 2013 Daily Herald article titled “Two injured in I-90 motorcycle crash” :

Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Brian McKinney said two men were injured. They included a 26-year-old passenger and driver Jose Flores Avilla, 30, of Milwaukee, who was issued citations for failure to reduce speed and for a violation of the classification for the motorcycle.

It appears as if one motorcycle struck another from behind.  The rider of the second motorcycle was not injured.

Motorcycle Accident In Springfield

There was a motorcycle accident Monday, September 30, 2013, in Springfield, Illinois.

The accident happened as a motorcyclist was heading east on Stevenson Drive near Woodward Street, at approximately 2:00 p.m.  The motorcyclist collided with an SUV that was attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Stevenson from Woodward Street.

The motorcyclist was taken to St. John’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The motorcyclist has been identified as Steven Shafer, 22, of Spingfield.  The driver of the SUV was identified as Kaytlynn L. Foster, 20, of Springfield.
