Southern Illinois Fatal Vehicle Accident Involves Motorcycle

There was a fatal vehicle accident in Southern Illinois on Thursday afternoon  (August 29, 2013) that involved a collision between a dump truck and a motorcycle.  The vehicle accident resulted in the deaths of three people, all of whom died at the accident scene.

The accident happened on Epworth Road, approximately two miles southeast of Carmi, in White County.

Sheriff Doug Maier said the dump truck apparently crossed into the oncoming motorcycle’s path, before hitting a tree.

The three people killed include the driver of the dump truck, Robert Leffingwell, 69 of Carmi; as well as two people on the motorcycle.  The two people riding on the motorcycle were identified as Michael L. Barton, 43, of Evansville, Indiana; and D’ella J. Ratley, 35 of Herrin, Illinois.

Fatal Motorcycle Accident On The Edens Expressway

There was a fatal motorcycle accident on Chicago’s Edens Expressway early this morning (August 27, 2013).

The motorcycle accident happened in the northbound lanes of the Edens near the Wilson Avenue exit.  According to the Illinois State Police (ISP), the motorcyclist collided with a bridge support at approximately 1:15 a.m.

The motorcyclist, identified as Willie Carrington, 29, of Glenview, was pronounced dead at the accident scene.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Motorcycle Accident In Willow Springs, Illinois

An off-duty Chicago Police Sergeant who crashed his motorcycle late Sunday (August 18, 2013) died from multiple injuries, according to an autopsy.   The accident happened on LaGrange Road in Willow Springs, as he was merging onto northbound La Grange Road from Archer Avenue at about 6:50 p.m.

The off-duty Police Sergeant, Jean-Pierre Borja, 44, of Chicago, had managed to lay his motorcycle on the ground after the accident.

Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy told reporters that “it looks like he pulled over to the side of the road and kind of dropped his motorcycle and had some sort of a heart issue and had heart failure.

Following the accident, Borja was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and was pronounced dead at 7:50 p.m.

Fatal Motorcycle Accident In Geneva, Illinois

There was a fatal motorcycle accident on Sunday afternoon (August 18, 2013) in Geneva, Illinois.

The accident happened on Kautz Road, at approximately 2:46 p.m.

According to authorities, the motorcyclist was turning north on Kautz Road from Illinois Route 83, when – for unknown reasons – he lost control of his motorcycle.  The motorcycle then hit a tree after leaving the roadway.

The motorcyclist, James R. Stevens, 58, of St. Charles, was taken to Central DuPage Hospital, and pronounced dead.

Motorcycle Accident In Godfrey, Illinois

There was a fatal motorcycle accident in Godfrey, Illinois last night (August 17, 2013).

The accident happened on Illinois Route 100, near the Iroquois Trail.  It involved a motorcyclist whose bike hit a guardrail.  The motorcyclist was ejected from the bike, and died.

Emergency responders were contacted at 7:06 p.m.

The motorcyclist has been identified as Nathan C. Allen, 30, of St. Clair, Missouri.
