Yesterday, the Chicago Tribune published an article titled “Fatal highway crashes dip in second half of 2012.”  The article discusses Illinois crash fatality trends in Illinois, and mentions those fatalities that involve motorcycles.

Notable excerpts include:

…2012 was a very dangerous year on Illinois roads. Crash fatalities increased 4 percent, to 957 deaths in 887 separate accidents from 918 deaths in 835 separate accidents in 2011, according to data from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Some 148 of the fatalities last year involved motorcyclists, marking a 15.5 percent increase over 2011, IDOT reported.

also:

Of the 887 fatal crashes in the state last year, 130 were reported in Chicago, up from 109 in 2011, IDOT said. Cook County accounted for 243 of the fatal crashes last year, up from 213 in 2011.
