Fatal Motorcycle Accident On I-57

There was a fatal motorcycle accident Thursday night on Interstate 57 (I-57).

The accident happened at approximately 5:15 p.m. on the I-57 ramp, just south of the I-80 overpass, according to the Illinois State Police.

The motorcyclist has been identified as Sherri Berchan, 55, of Lowell, Indiana.  She died at the accident scene.

A motorcyclist who was reportedly riding in front of her husband on the Interstate Thursday night was killed after crashing into a truck that had an attached trailer.

Berchan reportedly drifted too far in her lane and struck a pickup truck, police said.

“That truck had a trailer it was towing and as she hit the ground, she was run over by the trailer part of it,” said a phone operator with the Illinois State Police, who declined to give additional details without the report on hand.

Fatal Motorcycle Accident In Freeport, Illinois

Last week, there was a fatal motorcycle accident in Freeport, Illinois.

Details on the accident are somewhat limited.

The motorcyclist killed was Jason A. Veer, 22, of Freeport.

An excerpt from The Journal-Standard article of June 26, titled “Motorcycle accidents on the rise” :

Police say Jason A. Veer, 22, of Freeport was operating a motorcycle southbound on Galena Avenue when a car traveling northbound on Galena Avenue turned west onto Stephenson Street in front of the motorcycle.

The driver of the car, Amanda Strohecker, 31, of Freeport, was cited for failure to yield at an intersection. Veer was taken to FHN Memorial Hospital, where he died of injuries sustained in the accident. He was not wearing a helmet, police say.

Motorcyclist Seriously Injured During June 23, 2012 Accident In Quincy, Illinois

A motorcycle accident happened on Saturday afternoon, June 23, in Quincy, Illinois.

The accident occurred at 2:33 p.m., at the intersection of Fourth and State.

An excerpt from the June 23 Quincy Herald-Whig, titled “Motorcycle accident at Fourth and State injures Quincy man” :

The Quincy Police Department reports Jacob L. Scranton, 20, was westbound on State from Fifth at 2:33 p.m. on a 2003 Buell motorcycle. As Scranton was approaching Fourth Street, he was ejected from his motorcycle. Both Scranton and the motorcycle slid into the rear of a westbound 2005 Mercury SUV, driven by a Quincy resident, stopped at the stop sign on State at Fourth Street.

Scranton sustained serious injuries and was taken to Blessing Hospital.

Fatal Motorcycle Accident In Springfield, Illinois On June 22, 2012

On Friday, June 22, a fatal motorcycle accident happened in Springfield, Illinois.

The motorcyclist who died from injuries sustained during the accident was Sean Michael Flynn, 24, of Springfield.  The accident happened at approximately 10:15 p.m. on Hastings Road, in the 1800th block.

The crash occurred as Flynn was riding with another motorcyclists around 10:15 p.m. The motorcycles collided, and both riders were thrown from their motorcycles. The other rider suffered minor injuries, Springfield police said.

Fatal Motorcycle Accident On I-294 Near Glenview

Early this morning there was a fatal motorcycle accident on I-294 near Glenview, Illinois.

The accident resulted in the death of Christian Borowski, 28, of Prospect Heights, Illinois.

The accident happened as Borowski was riding his 2006 Honda motorcycle northbound at approximately 5:53 a.m., and lost control of the bike.   He then rode into a ditch and was ejected from the motorcycle.

According to witness reports he was riding at a high rate of speed previous to the accident.

The Illinois State Police say Borowski was pronounced dead at the accident scene.
