Motorcyclist Injured During Memorial Day Accident On Interstate 74 In Illinois

On Memorial Day (May 28) there was an accident near mile post 189 on Interstate 74 in Illinois.

Matthew Paul Sharp, 35, broke his leg during the course of the accident.

An excerpt from the May 28 News-Gazette.com story titled “Man injured after Interstate 74 motorcycle accident” :

Matthew Paul Sharp was headed westbound when his 2001 Honda motorcycle ran off the roadway, according to a news release from the Illinois State Police. He lost control of the motorcycle, which came to a rest on a bridge embankment about 50 feet north of the roadway.

Sharp was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital. He was charged with operating an uninsured vehicle, improper lane usage and for not having a valid registration.

Motorcyclist Killed In Geneva, Illinois During Memorial Day Accident

On Memorial Day (May 28) there was a fatal motorcycle accident in Geneva, Illinois.

John M. Broderick III, 23, of St. Charles, was the motorcyclist killed during the course of the accident.

Details concerning the accident appear limited; the investigation is ongoing.  However, it is being widely reported that Broderick’s motorcycle collided with the rear of an SUV driven by Valerie E. Andrea, 63, of Bartlett.

According to the Geneva Police Department, the accident happened at approximately 6:42 p.m. near the intersection of Randall Road and Gleneagle Drive.

Fatal Motorcycle Accident In Grundy County, Illinois Kills IMFR Co-Founder

On Sunday, May 27, there was a fatal motorcycle accident near Seneca, Illinois in Grundy County.

The accident, which happened at approximately 3:00 p.m. on U.S. Highway 6, resulted in the death of Anthony R. Cutrano, 52, of Palos Heights.  Cutrano was the co-founder of the Illinois Motorcycle Freedom Run, as well as one of the creators of a memorial wall, called the Middle Eastern Conflicts Wall Memorial (or “Freedom Wall”), honoring those killed during the Middle East military operations.

Preliminary reports indicate that Cutrano was riding northeast, .2 miles north of Bluff Road, in an area known as “Halterman’s Hill,” when his Harley came in contact with the guardrail along the east side of the road.  The motorcycle traveled along the guardrail for approximately 300 feet before Cutrano was ejected from the motorcycle.  He was pronounced dead at the accident scene.

Two People Hurt In Johnson County, Illinois Motorcycle Accident

On Saturday, May 26, two people were injured in a motorcycle accident in Johnson County, Illinois.

Jackie D. Wharry, 59, and his passenger Rebecca L. Wharry, 57, of Zeigler, suffered injuries in the crash that occurred at 10:35 a.m. near Tunnel Hill, according to Illinois State Police.

Jackie Wharry was driving a 2003 Honda Shadow motorcycle eastbound on Tunnel Hill Road, east of Bowman Road in the “S” curves, when he lost control of the motorcycle and struck an embankment.

Wharry also had a passenger, 57-year-old Rebecca L. Wharry.

Jackie Wharry was transported via AirEvac to Deaconess Hospital. Rebecca Wharry was transported to Heartland Regional Medical Center.

Motorcycle Accident On Chicago’s Lake Shore Drive Injures Father And Son

A motorcycle accident Saturday, May 26, on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago has injured a father and son.

The father and son, from Norridge, each lost control of their motorcycles on LSD in the Edgewater area, near West Hollywood.  According to police, both have been cited for DUI.

The crashes happened at approximately 3:43 p.m., as the pair were traveling northbound.  The father, for an unknown reason, first lost control of his motorcycle, and was ejected.  The bike, however, continued on its own for more than a block, until it hit a taxicab stopped at the intersection of Sheridan and Hollywood.  The father suffered various injuries including those to the head and back, according to police.

At approximately the same time, the son lost control of his motorcycle, and hit a concrete wall.  He was thrown over the wall, landing in a grassy area.  He suffered injuries to his right leg and other areas.

Both the father and son were taken in critical condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition.
