Fatal Motorcycle Accident Leaves Monticello, Illinois Man Dead And Seriously Injures His Daughter

According to a March 23 News-Gazette article titled “Motorcycle accident leaves one dead, one injured,” a fatal motorcycle accident happened Thursday night on Allerton Road in Piatt County, Illinois.

The accident killed Michael Hyde, 39, of Monticello, Illinois, and seriously injured his teenage stepdaughter.

Chief Deputy Mark Huckstep of the Piatt County sheriff’s office said Michael Hyde, 39, of Monticello, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on the Allerton Road.

Huckstep said Mr. Hyde’s stepdaughter, Lindsey Franklin, 19, also of Monticello, was critically injured and airlifted to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana following the crash, which happened about 8:20 p.m. Thursday.

Huckstep said Mr. Hyde was driving northeast on the Allerton Road, just south of the city, when he apparently left the side of the road near a curve and lost control in a ditch with gravel. Neither Mr. Hyde nor Franklin was wearing a helmet, Huckstep said.

Motorcyclist Involved In Accident On Chicago’s Southwest Side

Wednesday night, a motorcyclist was involved in an accident with another vehicle on Chicago’s Southwest Side.

Details are very limited.

According to a story in the March 22 Chicago Tribune, titled “Southwest Side crash leaves motorcyclist critically hurt,”

It happened at 9:32 p.m. in the 5800 block of South Pulaski Road, according to Amina Greer, a spokeswoman for the Chicago Police.

The motorcyclist was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Greer said.

Motorcycle Accident In Lake Villa, Illinois

On Tuesday, March 20, a motorcyclist was injured during an accident with a Dodge Dakota in Lake Villa, Illinois.

The motorcyclist has not been identified other than he is 52 years old.

The accident occurred as the motorcyclist was riding north on Fairfield Road at 4:23 p.m.  At Monaville and Fairfield Roads, his motorcycle was struck by a Dodge Dakota driven by a 62-year-old male, who was traveling westbound.

There is a four-way stop at Monaville and Fairfield, and both drivers claim they stopped at the intersection.

The motorcyclist was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The driver of the Dodge Dakota was not injured.

Fatal Motorcycle Accident In Sangamon County, Illinois

A fatal motorcycle accident happened on Sunday afternoon in Sangamon County, Illinois, near Dawson.

The accident happened at 3:27 p.m.   The motorcyclist, Thomas Blane Harley, 33, of Illiopolis, was heading west when he collided with a pickup truck on U.S. 36 at Constant Street.  The accident occurred as the pickup truck crossed the highway into the motorcycle’s path.

The motorcycle struck the pickup truck’s front right fender; Harley was then thrown from the motorcycle.

Harley was pronounced dead at 4:50 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois.

The driver of the pickup, a 19-year-old yet-unidentified male, was cited for disobeying a traffic control device; failing to wear a seatbelt; and not having a driver’s license.  The driver said he did not see the motorcycle after looking both ways.

The Illinois State Police and the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office are investigating the accident.

Motorcyclist From McHenry, Illinois Dies After Accident In Pistakee Highlands, Illinois

Yesterday, a motorcyclist died following a head-on collision with a car in Pistakee Highlands, Illinois.

The accident happened at approximately 2:40 p.m.

Edward Wald, 41, of McHenry, was riding his 2002 Harley northbound on Fox Lake Road.  According to the preliminary investigation, after his motorcycle drifted into the southbound lanes into oncoming traffic, he collided head-on with a 2012 Audi driven by Marshall S. Handelsman in the 5700 block of Fox Lake Road.

Wald was taken to Centegra Hospital in McHenry, where he was pronounced dead.

Handelsman was treated at the scene.

It is unknown at this time as to what caused Wald to cross into oncoming traffic.

An investigation by the the McHenry County Sheriff’s office is continuing.
