Motorcyclist Dies After Waukegan Illinois Accident

Vincent Turner, 48, of Gurnee, died yesterday from injuries he sustained during a motorcycle accident in Waukegan, Illinois.

The accident happened Tuesday, October 12 2010 at approximately 5:40 p.m. as Turner was riding a Harley Davidson south on Green Bay Road near Grand Avenue.  A woman, Christine Otis, 34, of Waukegan, pulled in front of him as she was driving west on Duggald Avenue.  Turner swerved to avoid Otis’ Chevrolet Suburban, but he lost control and crashed.

According to Lake County Coroner Dr. Richard Keller, Turner died at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville from a head injury he suffered during the fall.

Waukegan police Cmdr. Gabriel Guzman said Turner was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Otis, 34, was charged with reckless homicide after the Lake County state’s attorney’s office was notified of Turner’s death. Otis initially was charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol.

Otis was released after posting 10 percent of a $25,000 bond for the aggravated DUI charge. Guzman said even with the upgraded reckless homicide charge, Otis remained free Friday pending her next appearance in Lake County circuit court.
